June 7, 2009
The rounded body of the Chincoteague pony used to live on Assateague around the 200′s. These ponies had to withstand harsh climates and unpredictable whether all the time. This might be the reason why these ponies are so adaptable to whatever surrondings they are in.
Chincoteague ponies come in many colors, some of these colors are paint, pinto, piebald, and skewbald. Chincoteague ponies usual stand to an average of 12 hh. (48 in.)
They are used mainly feral but some are ridden under the saddle.
The island of Chincoteague lies off the coasts of Virginia and is with the last remaining habitat for wild equine stock.
